Focal
WATCH, SKIM, or SKIP. YouTube video verdicts on hover
What it does
Focal is a browser extension that tells you whether a YouTube video is worth your time before you click play. Hover over any thumbnail and get a WATCH / SKIM / SKIP verdict instantly. It reads the transcript, scores information density, and pulls out timestamped bullets and key moments. Built for ADHD brains and people who keep rage-closing tabs halfway through. Apply a lens like "just the steps" or "no fluff" and it filters for what matters to you. Stop guessing. Start knowing

- FAFocal, a Pomodoro App2024 · aabiji.github.io · ▲49
Focal is a pomodoro web app. I know there's a lot of productivity apps already, but I'm releasing this since I figure someone might find it useful. Focal was more of a short, 3 day project so it may be rough around the edges, but I think it does the job. In any case, Focal is open source and I would be happy to merge contributions. Here's the github repository: https://github.com/aabiji/focal Have a nice day!

- FFFocusStream – Focused, distraction-free YouTube for learnersSep 2025 · focusstream.media · ▲81
I built FocusStream because I was tired of going to YouTube to learn one thing, then getting lost in recommendations and distractions. With FocusStream, just enter your topic and get only the relevant YouTube videos—no unrelated suggestions or autoplay. It’s free, minimal. Would love your feedback! Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
