Footwork

One good email beats a hundred applications.

What it does

Footwork helps students find internships by writing to a real person at a company instead of filling out another application form. You paste in a company's website and it uses a lot of different methods to figure out who works there and what their email addresses are. You fill in your profile once and every email after that gets written from it, in your own words. You read each one and send it yourself from your own Gmail, and when someone replies it sorts the reply and drafts your answer.

    I made an all-in-one desktop app with a no-BS approach to get work done2023 · ▲206

Hi HN! This is Daniel from Floutwork (https://www.floutwork.com) Floutwork is an all-in-one desktop app designed to serve as a personal work system, offering a no-BS approach to getting real work done online. Background: When I transitioned from a development role to a product management role, I realized there was no real organization or structure to the way I worked as a PM. Tasks I needed to complete were scattered across emails, Teams, meetings, etc. I was inundated with emails and found myself juggling multiple browser windows, numerous open tabs, and other desktop…

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
