Hello HN! I'm Jia Yi, a co-founder of FutureNotes (https://www.futurenotes.ai/). Our platform converts videos directly into notes, using traditional machine learning for video parsing (generative AI is still too slow and expensive for the volume of data involved) and LLM technology for text summarization. As an avid learner, I often turn to videos for knowledge, but over time I realised that video didn't suit my learning style - I prefer notes enriched with helpful images that can be skimmed through at my own pace. Moreover, I wanted to keep a personal record of the content I had encountered, something quickly referenceable for recapping what I've learnt, but a bunch of video links or thumbnails isn't an optimal format for that. With these issues in mind I developed the core scripts of FutureNotes' last year, primarily for my friends and myself. This year I decided to build a web service around it, thinking that there might be others out there like me who prefer a more text-based means of information exchange. The current version of FutureNotes is a basic implementation, but it contains the core functionality of video-to-notes conversion. You can either upload an existing video or record your screen, and indicate the email(s) you'll like the notes to be delivered to (in both word and pdf formats). I am hoping the email functionality allows people to use it as a form of communication as well (perhaps an alternative to traditional email or Slack videos)? I look forward to hearing about how people use FutureNotes, and welcome suggestions on how it can be made more useful! Videos less than a minute long will be processed into notes for free. In addition, to celebrate Cyber Monday (and the launch), we'll be having a 40% discount for the entire week (27 Nov to 3 Dec). I hope this encourages more people to give FutureNotes a try and feedback :) One more thing, if there are any popular suggestions for specific videos that people would like to see as converted into notes, I'll do my best to process the video and upload it to samples page of our website (https://www.futurenotes.ai/samples) for everyone to view. I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano.
