Glasskube – The new Kubernetes Package Manager is now in Beta
Hey there! We are excited to introduce the Beta version of Glasskube, the Open Source next generation Package Manager for Kubernetes. If you're familiar with working in a Kubernetes environment, you understand the challenges of managing third-party packages crucial for running your clusters and the applications within them. Current installation methods often lack simple package configuration, are difficult to upgrade, and don't support multi-namespace dependencies. We're eager to get Glasskube into your hands and hear your thoughts. The best way to get started is by visiting our GitHub…
In plain words
Glasskube is an open source package manager for Kubernetes that simplifies installing and managing third-party packages within clusters. It addresses limitations in current installation methods by offering straightforward package configuration, easier upgrades, and support for multi-namespace dependencies. Hello HN, we're Philip and Louis from Glasskube (https://github.com/glasskube/glasskube). We're working on an open-source package manager for Kubernetes. It's an alternative to tools like Helm or Kustomize, primarily focused on making deploying, updating, and configuring Kubernetes packages simpler and a lot faster. Here is a demo video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIeTHGWsG2c#t=17s) with quick start instructions. Most developers working with Kubernetes use Helm, an open-source tool created during a hackathon nine years ago. However, with the rapid…
- GVGlasskube v0.0.1 Technical Preview for a New Kubernetes Package Manager2024 · glasskube.dev · ▲29
Hi folks, We worked hard over the last couple of weeks to build a new package manager for Kubernetes that makes it super simple to install packages and solves some of the shortcomings of helm (dependency management, multi namespace installations, a GUI and CLI as first class interfaces). We just released our source code on GitHub: https://github.com/glasskube/glasskube/ and looking for feedback!

Hello HN, we’re Philip Louis from Glasskube (https://github.com/glasskube/glasskube). We are working on a package manager for Kubernetes to simplify the packaging of complex applications with multiple dependencies, ensuring they are installed and kept up-to-date across multiple Kubernetes clusters. Nowadays, it is best practice to use Git as a revision control system for your Kubernetes configurations. Update automation workflows like Renovate or Dependabot can create pull requests for new versions of Docker images and Helm charts, but ensuring these new package versions…
- POPackage Operator – Kubernetes application packaging and management2024 · package-operator.run · ▲5
Hey HN :) I just saw the post about Glasskube - an open source package manager for kubernetes [1] and would like to throw package-operator in the ring for y'all to look at and get some feedback on it. Disclaimer up front: I'm an engineer working on package-operator as part of my SRE work in Red Hat's service delivery org. Opinions are my own, though. :) Package-Operator is a multi component ecosystem to tackle the package management story for kubernetes in a slighly novel- (and not so novel- when compared with OLM [2]) way: - `package-operator-manager` is an actual operator running inside…
- TMThe Missing Open Source Package Manager for Kubernetes Beyond Helm2024 · github.com · ▲20
Hi, we are a small team from Vienna and today released our first version of a Package Manager similar to apt, Homebrew, or Chocolatey, but specifically tailored for Kubernetes environments and cloud-native software. Originally, we wanted to contribute to the Kubernetes ecosystem with a different idea; however, after talking to the community, we uncovered that package management is an even bigger problem at the moment. We are now looking for as much feedback as possible, so we would really appreciate it if you could check it out and let us know what you think! Thanks!
