gpt-engineer – platform for devs to tinker with AI programming tools

Hello Hacker News community, Wanted to share a project I started working on during my spare time and was then discovered by many in the open source community last week. GPT Engineer’s mission: Be the open platform for devs to tinker with and build their personal code-generation toolbox. I believe it's key for us devs to engage in how building software can and will change. You can find more info about the flexible technical "philosophy" to make it work well, and the community we want it to become on github: https://github.com/AntonOsika/gpt-engineer The project is still in…

In plain words

GPT Engineer is an open-source platform that enables developers to build and customize their own code-generation tools powered by AI. It provides a flexible foundation for experimenting with and refining how large language models assist in software development. The project is designed for developers who want to actively shape how AI changes programming practices and create personalized toolboxes tailored to their specific coding needs.

In the maker’s words, at launch

Hello Hacker News community, Wanted to share a project I started working on during my spare time and was then discovered by many in the open source community last week. GPT Engineer’s mission: Be the open platform for devs to tinker with and build their personal code-generation toolbox. I believe it's key for us devs to engage in how building software can and will change. You can find more info about the flexible technical "philosophy" to make it work well, and the community we want it to become on github: https://github.com/AntonOsika/gpt-engineer The project is still in early stages. It's clear that there is a lot of room for improvement as the space to combine tricks that guide LLM's is large. Appreciate any suggestions, experiences, or ideas on the project from you all!

Hey Hacker News! Launching gptengineer.app into beta today. It's like Claude Artifacts, but: - you can edit the code in your fav IDE (two-way github sync) - installs npm packages - automatically picks up build and runtime errors and fixes them - very fast, built with rust The full stack capabilities are built on supabase (prefer to not have to handle auth + user data at this point so this is owned by the user) The seed for this project was an open source experiment, posted about that previously here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36422730 Would love feedback if you give…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

  • Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…

Heya HN, I've been working on a reddit-like platform as my primary side project for the last few years. Doing a (very) soft launch today, mainly because I want to use it to encourage discussion of alternatives. How non.io works: 1. Free to browse, paid to interact. 2. Minimum subscription is $2 (though you can choose more). I take $1 to run the servers, everything left gets split evenly between everything you upvote that month. It's a simple model, but I hope it's a better one than the freemium model we've been relying on for the last few years. Fundamentally I feel like any ad-supported…
