GrokVocab
Hi HN, As a non-native speaker, I improved my vocabulary by reading English novels. At the time, it felt like a clever hack. It was hard and sometimes took me hours to read a single page(because I had to constantly look up words), but I pushed through because I enjoyed reading, especially fiction. I would never have put in the same effort to create flashcards or word lists and then memorize words. Learning works for me when it becomes a side effect of something engaging. Even now, if I want to learn a new programming language or framework, I skim the basics, pick a small project, and learn…

What it does
GrokVocab helps you learn new words naturally through short, engaging passages. No flashcards, no memorization. Just read, answer some questions, and the words will stick.
Our app gives you a new reading material whenever you click the button on top. It will be interesting, engaging and bite-sized. Your goal is to understand the passage given. Try to guess the meaning of the unfamiliar words in the passage from the context. In Advanced Mode you will get a more complex passage. Our app will pick some words from the passage and will ask you whether you know/guessed the meaning. By challenging your knowledge immediately, more context is added in your mind. Whether you get it right or not, at the end of this evaluation you would have learned a new word. Either you know the meaning of the word already or you think you have understood the meaning from the context.…from grokvocab.com

Personalized Duolingo (kind of) for vocabulary building2025 · github.com · ▲161Hi! Wanted to share the project I really wanted to have. TLDR; this app lets you create your own list of words and you get a Duolingo-like experience (kind of, still needs a lot of features) practicing those words in their context. My English is not the best but not the worst either. But I realized I can't boost it up after a certain level! In my belief, in order to truly learn a language, you need to be exposed to that language often. Vocabulary is the key factor here if you really want to improve in any language. My experience is that when I read a book to improve my English vocabulary, I…

Trickle - Magic Canvas ▲1,064Hey HN! Introducing Trickle Magic Canvas: the world’s first Agentic Canvas, where you can visually co-create apps and websites with AI, from idea to production. Why is a canvas better? Most AI tools today rely on linear chats or text prompts. We believe that limits creativity and clarity. Canvas changes the game. 1. Every version & page at a glance. Each page and sub-page lives on a timeline. You can quickly browse, edit, and preview progress like a living, visual document — no more digging through chat logs or scattered states. 2. The canvas is the context. Unlike linear chats, you can…

Today marks ten years, 3653 consecutive days, of running at least one mile every day under the USRSA rules [1]. To celebrate, I built an interactive dashboard that turns a decade of GPX files into charts you can explore. Running has truly changed my life: I've made lifelong friends, explored beautiful places, and more importantly invested into my own health and fitness, which I'm starting to see the positive benefits as I get older. The stack is pretty simple: a NextJS app, with a Postgres database to keep all my running data, and all the stats are pre-computed and cached in Redis, so I…

Made this website as an exercise in vibe-coding and GCP. It was posted about a few times around the internet, on sites like Morning Brew (https://www.morningbrew.com/issues/business-buzzkill), MetaFilter (https://www.metafilter.com/209703/Draw-A-Fish), boingboing.net, etc. I think it's cute! I built a basic CNN trained against penises and swastikas, and then anything that doesn't hit the 63% confidence score gets sent to a mod queue, a vibe-coded fish-tinder…

Hi HN - I made a site that takes a UK postcode, grabs the local MP's information and generates an AI mockup of what their ID might look like. It's a small, silly protest at the stupidity of the Online Safety Act that just came into force. edit - My open AI credits got hugged to death, please use a known postcode (like one from Kier Starmer's constituency, WC2B6NH) in the meantime.
