Guidory

Know what your kids are watching before they watch

What it does

Guidory helps parents understand what their kids are watching on YouTube before they hit play. Search a video or channel to get a parent-focused analysis covering age appropriateness, educational value, overstimulation, advertising, and more. Guidory turns all of that into clear scores and practical guidance, so parents can make faster, more informed choices without watching every video themselves.

See what your kids are watching on YouTube before they watch it. Guidory analyzes channels and videos for age appropriateness, educational value, overstimulation, advertising, and more.

Clear, practical guidance for the YouTube content your family is considering. Press Enter to search. Typing alone does not contact YouTube. Stored Guidory matches appear as you type. Press Enter to search YouTube. Explore mixes scores and recent checks from our stored library. These controls never search YouTube. The recommendation engine doesn't know your family. It doesn't know that your seven-year-old is sensitive to scary thumbnails, or that your eleven-year-old is ready for harder questions. It optimizes for watch time. You optimize for a person. Guidory exists for the gap between a thumbnail and what a video or channel actually delivers. It reads stored YouTube content with…from getguidory.com

Hi HN, I watch A LOT of educational YouTube videos but wasn't forgetting a good chunk of the details because I was only really passively watching. So I made a tool that generates quiz questions/flashcards from YouTube videos, and uses spaced repetition like Anki or Duolingo to keep it in memory. Let me know if you find it cool/useful (or terrible ) or if you want to know a bit about the details!

  • Hi HN, I built Eigendrum, a web tool that solves the 2D wave equation for arbitrary shapes so you can hear what they sound like as drums. How it works: * Solves -∇²u = λu using finite element analysis (Kφ = λMφ) on a triangle mesh. * Validated to <0.1% error against closed-form solutions for circles (Bessel zeros) and rectangles. * Sound model factors in strike location, Rayleigh damping, and mallet width. * Includes Kac drums I & II to demonstrate identical sound spectra from different geometries. * No frameworks, build steps, or dependencies. Repo and tests:…

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
