What it does

Guitar Setup Lab is a free collection of 50 interactive tools for guitar and bass setup, repair, electronics, and luthier work. Diagnose setup problems, check measurements, plan fret and hardware geometry, verify pickup and control fit, and create repair records. No signup is required, and calculations run directly in your browser.

Interactive guitar setup, repair, electrical testing, recording-chain measurement, checklists, printable records, and luthier geometry planners.

A safety-first bench for diagnosing playability, comparing measurements, planning reversible adjustments, and printing a record of the result. Calculate fret coordinates, spacing, radii, multiscale layouts, angles, tremolo balance, and shim taper from named physical datums. Project string spread and compare pole, cavity, ring, and mounting dimensions with current manufacturer drawings. Compare measured pot, knob, switch, jack, cavity, and harness geometry without relying on import or US labels. Check DI loading, match reamp level, screen pedal headroom, and translate recorded offsets into samples, time, and microphone arrival phase. Compare pickup resistance, characterize a pot sweep, map…from guitarsetuplab.com

  • I made a tool for learning scales, chords, and how to combine themMay 2026 · projects.alesh.com · ▲36

This started out when I vibe-coded a guitar scale fingering generator. It came out pretty good, and I started adding stuff to it: chords, then how chords and scales interact. Then I added charts for other instruments I mess around with: piano, cello, alto recorder. There's a complexity toggle to go from basic harmony to extended/experimental stuff. It's honestly still mostly a toy, but I thought other people might be interested in playing with it. Source is on github, so it's easy enough to run locally and fork. https://github.com/aleshh/gtr-scales

  • Hey HN, We recently built Clipto. It’s a tool that lets you search over terabytes of video, audio, and images on your computer, without relying on the cloud. Motivation: we probably all had this similar experience, we know a moment exists in a video or audio, but finding it takes hours scrubbing the timeline. You can send all the media to process in the cloud, but it’s slow, expensive and raises privacy concerns. So we decided to build our own on-device media search engine. How it works (high level): 1. We ingest video, audio, image; normalize formats via ffmpeg; run content analysis to…

  • Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…
