Hackattic – hard, no-nonsense, real-world programming challenges

Hackattic is all about hard, real-world programming challenges. No binary trees. Git, Docker, Redis, Postgres hacking and more.

Hackattic – hard, no-nonsense, real-world programming challenges launched on November 6, 2017 with 21 votes, #869 of 3,137 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 8 years on.

In plain words

Hackattic offers a collection of hard programming challenges focused on practical, real-world scenarios rather than abstract computer science problems. Developers work with tools like Git, Docker, Redis, and Postgres to solve problems that mirror actual development work. The platform is designed for programmers who want to tackle meaningful technical challenges beyond typical algorithmic exercises.

Hi! This is hackattic . That means nothing to you right now, and that's fine. I suck at landing pages but this thing needs an introduction, so here's a few words straight from the dude that hacked it up. Right now, hackattic is four five seven nine eleven fifteen seventeen challenges, ready to get solved. I plan to keep adding more over time, but I had to start somewhere. And they keep coming! I’d like to think these are not your average challenges. You won’t (now or probably ever) be asked to invert a binary tree, sort a goddamn list or do other purely computer-science-y things. There are other websites for that. The challenges on hackattic will require you to work with and dive into real…from hackattic.com

Hey HN! I spent the last year building a programming challenges site targeted at intermediate/advanced programmers [1]. Challenges follow the "Build your own X" format, where you learn about a popular open source tool by building a small version yourself (popularized by this Github repo [2]). The primary difference compared to other coding challenge websites like Codecademy, HackerRank, Exercism etc. is that we offer real-world programming challenges - no inverting binary trees here! I've posted about this multiple times here before, but haven't managed to gather much interest. Trying…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
