Hacker News ChatGPT Plugin
I recently received access to develop and use ChatGPT plugins, and embarked on a project to build a Hacker News integration as a learning exercise. My goal was to enable retrieval of content from HN to answer questions and produce insights in conversations with ChatGPT. I documented my journey in this blog post, which will hopefully be helpful to other plugin developers or anyone looking to learn more about embeddings. You can try the experience even if you don't have plugin access on ChatGPT through the demo on hn.kix.in - it's a loose approximation but should give you a sense of what's…
What it does
In the maker’s words, at launch
I recently received access to develop and use ChatGPT plugins, and embarked on a project to build a Hacker News integration as a learning exercise. My goal was to enable retrieval of content from HN to answer questions and produce insights in conversations with ChatGPT. I documented my journey in this blog post, which will hopefully be helpful to other plugin developers or anyone looking to learn more about embeddings. You can try the experience even if you don't have plugin access on ChatGPT through the demo on hn.kix.in - it's a loose approximation but should give you a sense of what's possible. I've been having a lot of fun getting concise answers from the collective wisdom on HN for a wide range of topics! In many ways this work is similar to the "ShowHN: AskHN" [1] demo shown here a few months ago by the folks at patterns.app. The main differences are in the real-time data integration (you can ask questions about articles submitted as recently as 15 minutes ago), integration with the ChatGPT plugin API, use of GPT-3.5-turbo instead of GPT-3 "davinci", and different approaches taken for embedding generation and semantic search. The source code for everything is on Github [2], pull requests are most welcome. [1] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34897773 [2] https://github.com/anantn/hn-chatgpt-plugin

I've been working on and off on a Chrome Extension for Hacker News, the extension focusses on improved usability rather than design. I can almost guarantee that after a day you won't want to go back to regular Hacker News. Give it a try, features include: - Improved readability - Quick inline replies from comments page - Quick profiles with social network info when hovering over usernames - Filtering of stories based on terms and phrases / domain or user - Endless scrolling - Collapsible comment threads - Social sharing for Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Buffer Forks, improvements and comments…

- FCFounder Chats – Connecting Hacker News Founder Community2019 · ▲37
Hi HN community! A huge number of startup founders are reading Hacker News, but it's still very hard to make new personal connections here and help each other with product building, growth, or fundraising. As an experiment to make HN founder community more connected, I've created a system of chat groups, organized by location, industry sector, and priority tasks. We were testing it out for the last couple of weeks, starting with 200+ YCombinator alum companies. Now already have 1000+ startups there, and 80+ venture investors have joined to connect with founders early. Many pitch practices…
- HNHacker News Discourse turns HN stories into Clubhouse-style audio rooms2021 · ▲36
I'm Seth, creator of discourse.fm, a browser-based tool/platform to create live audio chat rooms. I just launched an extension of the site - https://hackernews.discourse.fm/ - which pulls stories in real-time from the HN site using the public API, and enables anyone to join a live audio discussion about the story (think Clubhouse rooms autogenerated for HN stories). Once you enter a room, you can grab the link generated for a room and paste it back to the comments on the HN story to invite more participants. hackernews.discourse.fm is both a full-fledged product and a…
- CHChatGPT History Explorer2023 · github.com · ▲7
Hey HN, As a heavy ChatGPT user, I often want to explore my chat history, look for things I've already asked, keep favorite chats, and much more. ChatGPT doesn't even offer search capability (except in mobile version). So I decided to build one myself. It runs locally, so no sensitive data leaks. You only need to export your ChatGPT conversations, and put it in the `data` folder. Optionally setup OpenAI API key and it will create embeddings for semantic search. *Important* - it's not a desktop app (at least, not yet) - it's a python code with a browser interface that I've only tested on…

This is a userscript that you can use with Tampermonkey, or paste it to JS console. I generated it with o1-preview, simply by pasting the HTML source of a HN page to the prompt and asking it to make a comment updating script. And it worked flawlessly — great job, OpenAI! I'm impressed. What a time to be alive! The prompt: https://chatgpt.com/share/66eb36c5-a55c-8005-9ee1-d42770297d... The script fetches new comments every 10 seconds and inserts them to a proper place in the DOM, highlighting them with a nice color. With this script, HN feels like a realtime chat in busy…
