HearSay Learn launched on June 25, 2025 with 90 votes, #469 of 7,999 launches that month and more than 90% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.
What it does
Gain confidence for real conversations in 30+ languages. Personalized audio lessons to boost listening & speaking skills. Learn on the go, screen-free.
Daily audio lessons in WhatsApp, in 20+ languages. Listen on the go with a personal course built around topics you actually want to talk about.
Learn to order, ask for the bill, and make small talk. Everything you need for restaurants in Spain. Use 'usted' for elders, strangers, and formal situations. It's the respectful form ✅ Most people quit language learning because they can't find the time. HearSay is audio-only, so your commute, your walk, your morning coffee is already enough. Generic courses decide what you learn. HearSay builds around your interests, so every lesson feels worth showing up for. No one listening, no scoring, no pressure. You say things aloud until they stop feeling strange in your mouth. “Unlike other apps, HearSay actually gets better as you go because it keeps building on the vocabulary you learned.”…from hearsaylearn.com

Hi guys, Hope everyone is well. This app was borne out of my own frustration. I thought that I was terrible at learning languages at school, since I didn't become conversational in French after 5 years of study. However, I later traveled with some French friends and, in just under 3 weeks, I was able to hold a reasonable conversation. I realized that there's no substitute for speaking to native speakers. I tried to adopt this approach for other languages, but it's much harder to find people to practise with when you aren't travelling. I started using iTalki to meet people from different…

Hey HN! Pilots everywhere are required to keep a logbook of all their flying hours, aircraft, airports, and so on. Since I track everything digitally (some people still just use paper logbooks!), I put together some data visualizations and a few 3D globes to show my flying history. This globe is probably my favourite so far: https://jameshard.ing/pilot/globes/all If you’ve got ideas for other graphs or ways to show this kind of data, I’d love to hear them!

I was the main contributor to workout.lol, an open-source fitness app to easily build a workout routine. The project had traction (1.4k GitHub stars, 95 forks, ~20K visits/month), but was eventually sold due to video licensing hurdles. The new owner stopped maintaining it, and the repo went abandoned. Over the next 9 months, I sent 15 emails to try to save it : no replies. Feature requests & issues were ignored. The community was left with a "broken" tool let's say. I couldn't just let it die So I built the new version from scratch with the same open-source spirit, but a better…
