Helm is a pain, so I built Yoke – A Code-First Alternative
Kubernetes Package Management as Code; infrastructure as code, but actually. - yokecd/yoke
Helm is a pain, so I built Yoke – A Code-First Alternative launched on April 25, 2025 with 5 votes and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.
What it does
Yoke is a Helm-inspired infrastructure-as-code (IaC) package deployer designed to provide a more powerful, safe, and programmatic way to define and deploy packages. While Helm relies heavily on static YAML templates, Yoke takes IaC to the next level by allowing you to leverage general-purpose programming languages for defining packages, making it safer and more powerful than its predecessors. Kubernetes packages should be described via code. Programming environments have control flow, test frameworks, static typing, documentation, error management, and versioning. They are ideal for building contracts and enforcing them. Yoke deploys "flights" to Kubernetes (think helm charts or packages).…from github.com

Glasskube – Open Source Kubernetes Package Manager, alternative to Helm2024 · github.com · ▲266Hello HN, we're Philip and Louis from Glasskube (https://github.com/glasskube/glasskube). We're working on an open-source package manager for Kubernetes. It's an alternative to tools like Helm or Kustomize, primarily focused on making deploying, updating, and configuring Kubernetes packages simpler and a lot faster. Here is a demo video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIeTHGWsG2c#t=17s) with quick start instructions. Most developers working with Kubernetes use Helm, an open-source tool created during a hackathon nine years ago. However, with the rapid…
The Missing Open Source Package Manager for Kubernetes Beyond Helm2024 · github.com · ▲20Hi, we are a small team from Vienna and today released our first version of a Package Manager similar to apt, Homebrew, or Chocolatey, but specifically tailored for Kubernetes environments and cloud-native software. Originally, we wanted to contribute to the Kubernetes ecosystem with a different idea; however, after talking to the community, we uncovered that package management is an even bigger problem at the moment. We are now looking for as much feedback as possible, so we would really appreciate it if you could check it out and let us know what you think! Thanks!

Hi folks, We worked hard over the last couple of weeks to build a new package manager for Kubernetes that makes it super simple to install packages and solves some of the shortcomings of helm (dependency management, multi namespace installations, a GUI and CLI as first class interfaces). We just released our source code on GitHub: https://github.com/glasskube/glasskube/ and looking for feedback!
GitOps Template for Kubernetes2024 · github.com · ▲86Hello HN, we’re Philip Louis from Glasskube (https://github.com/glasskube/glasskube). We are working on a package manager for Kubernetes to simplify the packaging of complex applications with multiple dependencies, ensuring they are installed and kept up-to-date across multiple Kubernetes clusters. Nowadays, it is best practice to use Git as a revision control system for your Kubernetes configurations. Update automation workflows like Renovate or Dependabot can create pull requests for new versions of Docker images and Helm charts, but ensuring these new package versions…

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Hi everyone, I built PyXL — a hardware processor that executes a custom assembly generated from Python programs, without using a traditional interpreter or virtual machine. It compiles Python -> CPython Bytecode -> Instruction set designed for direct hardware execution. I’m sharing an early benchmark: a GPIO test where PyXL achieves a 480ns round-trip toggle — compared to 14-25 micro seconds on a MicroPython Pyboard - even though PyXL runs at a lower clock (100MHz vs. 168MHz). The design is stack-based, fully pipelined, and preserves Python's dynamic typing without static type restrictions.…
