HelpMeAsk - browser extension
Recently, during my intensive use of various large language models, I noticed a clear pattern: the quality of AI responses almost entirely depends on the quality of the questions we ask. A vague question can only yield a pile of technically correct but essentially useless answers. At its core, this falls under the realm of Prompt Engineering. I looked into several existing prompt optimization tools, but none of them really met my needs: Unclear data flow: Many tools require sending my question and API key to their servers for processing, which raises concerns about privacy and security.…

PrompTessor2025 · promptessor.com · ▲125After countless hours of solo coding, designing, and iterating, I’m both excited and nervous to share my first-ever product: PrompTessor — now live. As someone who constantly experiments with AI tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney, I often found myself stuck in a loop of trial-and-error. The issue wasn’t always the AI — it was often the prompt itself. That observation became the starting point for PrompTessor. This tool doesn’t just optimize your prompt — it analyzes it. It gives you: - A prompt score - A breakdown of strengths and weaknesses - A fully optimized version of your prompt - And…

Hey HN! Pilots everywhere are required to keep a logbook of all their flying hours, aircraft, airports, and so on. Since I track everything digitally (some people still just use paper logbooks!), I put together some data visualizations and a few 3D globes to show my flying history. This globe is probably my favourite so far: https://jameshard.ing/pilot/globes/all If you’ve got ideas for other graphs or ways to show this kind of data, I’d love to hear them!

I was the main contributor to workout.lol, an open-source fitness app to easily build a workout routine. The project had traction (1.4k GitHub stars, 95 forks, ~20K visits/month), but was eventually sold due to video licensing hurdles. The new owner stopped maintaining it, and the repo went abandoned. Over the next 9 months, I sent 15 emails to try to save it : no replies. Feature requests & issues were ignored. The community was left with a "broken" tool let's say. I couldn't just let it die So I built the new version from scratch with the same open-source spirit, but a better…
