In plain words

Homelab Monitoring Setup with Grafana is a monitoring solution designed for home server enthusiasts and self-hosted infrastructure operators. It uses Grafana to visualize and track system metrics across home laboratory environments. The setup helps users monitor their homelab performance and health through customizable dashboards and data visualization. It's ideal for anyone running multiple servers or services at home who wants centralized visibility into their infrastructure's status and performance metrics.

I have been self-hosting for almost two three years now, and one thing I have never quite figured out is how to monitor all the applications I host. At this stage, there are approximately forty running Docker containers so I really should have some means of monitoring what's going on on them and the general health of the server they are running on. Professionally, I have used Splunk and Sumo Logic for monitoring services, but the open source solution I would prefer to use for this is Grafana . I have already set up Grafana to get logs from the Via app, and it seems to be a very widely used tool industry-wide, so it would be nice to not be completely in the dark on it! In particular, I will…from blog.randombits.host

Hey HN, we built Subtrace (https://subtrace.dev) to let you see all incoming and outgoing requests in your backend server—like Wireshark, but for Docker containers. It comes with a Chrome DevTools-like interface. Check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsGa6ZwVxdA, and see our docs for examples: https://docs.subtrace.dev. Subtrace lets you see every request with full payload, headers, status code, and latency details. Tools like Sentry and OpenTelemetry often leave out these crucial details, making prod debugging slow and annoying. Most of the…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

  • Heya HN, I've been working on a reddit-like platform as my primary side project for the last few years. Doing a (very) soft launch today, mainly because I want to use it to encourage discussion of alternatives. How non.io works: 1. Free to browse, paid to interact. 2. Minimum subscription is $2 (though you can choose more). I take $1 to run the servers, everything left gets split evenly between everything you upvote that month. It's a simple model, but I hope it's a better one than the freemium model we've been relying on for the last few years. Fundamentally I feel like any ad-supported…
