What it does

Hoodik Cloud runs the Hoodik server as your own instance, with its own database and storage bucket. Files, file names, notes and search queries are encrypted on your device, so the server only stores ciphertext. Pick an EU or US region at signup, bring your own domain if you want. Free apps for iOS, Android and macOS. 100 GB for 9 EUR a month, 500 GB for 19 EUR. Free for 14 days, and the export gives you a runnable self-hosted copy. Server code on GitHub, source available under CC BY-NC 4.0.

A private, end-to-end encrypted storage instance, run for you. Files are encrypted on your device, stored in the EU or US, and you can export everything and self-host whenever you want.

That's Hoodik. Your photos, documents and backups are locked on your device before they go anywhere, and the key stays with you. We run the server and store bytes we have no way of opening. Rather run it yourself? The same server is free and always will be. Read the self-host guide . Here is the same three files in the three places they exist. The middle one is us. Readable, because you are the one holding the key. Locking happens here, before anything is uploaded. This is what we hold. The contents, the file name, and even the preview thumbnail are encrypted before they reach us, with a key we never receive. We cannot open any of it. Readable again, because your key travelled with you and…from hoodik.io

    SlikSafe – A decentralized, end-to-end encrypted alternative to Dropbox2021 · ▲284

Hey folks, We are the team behind Slik. Over the past year, we have been hacking on SlikSafe [1] a Dropbox alternative where all your data is first encrypted on your own device and then stored on decentralized storage. Some features we're most excited about are - - multi-device data sync, - auto-backups via desktop apps, - search your docs by name or contents with end-to-end encryption, - easy sharing via email, QR-code or private-link, - Password-less login using MetaMask/Phantom We leverage storage providers IPFS and Storj for global redundancy, reliability, and immutability. You can…

Hi HN, I built AxKeyStore, an open-source CLI tool for managing secrets that uses your own private GitHub repository as encrypted storage. The idea is simple: → All encryption happens locally. → Secrets are stored as encrypted blobs in your private repo. → GitHub is treated as untrusted storage. → No plaintext secrets ever leave your machine. → No plaintext secrets are stored on disk. Most secret managers either require a hosted backend, a self-hosted server, or trusting a SaaS provider. I wanted something that: → Requires zero infrastructure → Uses tooling developers already have → Keeps…

  • Hey HN, We recently built Clipto. It’s a tool that lets you search over terabytes of video, audio, and images on your computer, without relying on the cloud. Motivation: we probably all had this similar experience, we know a moment exists in a video or audio, but finding it takes hours scrubbing the timeline. You can send all the media to process in the cloud, but it’s slow, expensive and raises privacy concerns. So we decided to build our own on-device media search engine. How it works (high level): 1. We ingest video, audio, image; normalize formats via ffmpeg; run content analysis to…

  • Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…
