Humbug – an open source AI dev environment mostly built by AI
A while ago I posted a link to an earlier version of this, but a lot has changed since then! Humbug is a GUI designed to let you do more structured software engineering with AI. Most of the development work has been driven using Metaphor, a very simple natural-language based format for capturing detailed context. Metaphor aims to make development prompting much more repeatable and to offset many of the concerns that experienced engineers have with using AI. It provides a framework to capture the important learnings from interactive discussions and continually refine them in a way that gets…

PromptForge2025 · github.com · ▲474PromptForge: Open-source AI prompt engineering workbench with systematic evaluation I built PromptForge after getting frustrated with the manual trial-and-error approach to prompt engineering. Most tools are just text editors, but I wanted something that brings software engineering discipline to prompt development. Key technical features: - AI-assisted prompt generation (stop starting from scratch) - Systematic evaluation engine that auto-generates test suites - Multi-model support (Claude, GPT-4, Azure OpenAI) - Go backend with SQLite for performance and simplicity - One-line Docker…

ChunkHound, a local-first tool for understanding large codebasesJan 2026 · github.com · ▲114ChunkHound’s goal is simple: local-first codebase intelligence that helps you pull deep, core-dev-level insights on demand, generate always-up-to-date docs, and scale from small repos to enterprise monorepos — while staying free + open source and provider-agnostic (VoyageAI / OpenAI / Qwen3, Anthropic / OpenAI / Gemini / Grok, and more). I’d love your feedback — and if you have, thank you for being part of the journey!

Hello! I'm Byran. I spent the past ~6 months engineering a laptop from scratch. It's fully open-source on GH at: https://github.com/Hello9999901/laptop

- TITetris in a PDF▲1,289
I realized that the PDF engines of modern desktop browsers (PDFium and PDF.js) support JavaScript with enough I/O primitives to make a basic game like Tetris. It was a bit tricky to find a union of features that work in both engines, but in the end it turns out that showing/hiding annotation "fields" works well to make monochrome pixels, and keyboard input can be achieved by typing in a text input box. All in all it's quite janky but a nice reminder of how general purpose PDF scripting can be. The linked PDF is all ASCII so you can just open it in a text editor, or have a look at…

21st.dev▲1,211I originally built this app to organize and reuse interesting React + Tailwind components I came across on Twitter, inspired by the shadcn/ui approach. Later, a friend started contributing their own components, and it got me thinking—this could grow into something bigger, like an NPM for design engineers to share and use components. Would love to hear your thoughts!
