I built a knife steel comparison tool
Hey HN! I'm a bit of a knife steel geek and got tired of juggling tabs to compare stats. So, I built this tool: https://new.knife.day/blog/knife-steel-comparisons/all It lets you pick steels (like the ones in the screenshot) and see a radar chart comparing their edge retention, toughness, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening on a simple 1-10 scale. It's already been super handy for me, and I thought fellow knife/metallurgy enthusiasts here might find it useful too. Would love to hear your thoughts or any steel requests! Cheers!

In plain words
This knife steel comparison tool lets users select different steel types and view their properties—edge retention, toughness, corrosion resistance, and sharpening ease—displayed on a radar chart with 1-10 scales. It's designed for knife enthusiasts and metallurgy hobbyists who need to evaluate multiple steels without switching between different sources. The tool simplifies side-by-side comparisons for those researching blade materials.

Hey HN! About a year ago i stumbled upon the world of swords, knives, and EDC gear. A weirdly addicting (and expensive) hobby to have. Back then i noticed something, it was quite tedious to easily sift and search through knives based on length, steel, brand, and what not to find the knife for me. There were some great youtube channels that helped me pick out what i wanted however i had to sit through multiple 30 minute videos just to review 10-15 knives or so each. Recently i've been having a little trouble sleeping so i decided to pickup a new passion project to work on late at night,…

I wanted to quantify the endless "which knife should I buy" debates on r/chefknives, so I built a data analysis pipeline to get some real answers. The project is a 5-phase system built with Node.js. It first uses Fuse.js for fast, typo-tolerant fuzzy matching of ~450 known brands and ~8,700 models. The remaining text is then passed to an LLM (via OpenRouter) for discovering new, unknown entities and performing sentiment analysis on every mention. I ran it on over 1,000 threads, totaling more than 25,000 comments. A few interesting findings: The Underdog: Budget-friendly Tojiro has a…

Tapflow 2.0▲1,125We built Tapflow for devs, designers, PMs, and tech folks who’ve been sitting on internal docs, templates, and systems — but never productized them. Upload a PDF, notes, or workshop deck, and Tapflow drafts a structured product (with chapters, teaser and pricing plans). It’s good for AI kits, onboarding guides, design systems, and frameworks. You can sell through Stripe, LemonSqueezy, or PayPal. Real-time collaboration is in early beta. No site builder, no LMS — clean design and just focused tools to ship. Fully bootstrapped and just launched on PH today →…
