I built a(nother) house optimized for LAN parties
I wasn't quite sure if this qualified as "Show HN" given you can't really download it and try it out. However, dang said[0]: > If it's hardware or something that's not so easy to try out over the internet, find a different way to show how it actually works—a video, for example, or a detailed post with photos. Hopefully I did that? Additionally, I've put code and a detailed guide for the netboot computer management setup on GitHub: https://github.com/kentonv/lanparty Anyway, if this shouldn't have been Show HN, I apologize! In plain words
Someone built a house specifically designed for hosting LAN parties, featuring infrastructure optimized for networking multiple computers together. The setup includes a detailed netboot computer management system with code and guides available on GitHub. It is intended for gamers and enthusiasts who want a dedicated physical space for LAN gaming events. The project stands out for its comprehensive approach to hardware design, combining architectural planning with specialized networking infrastructure documented for others to learn from or replicate.

We built a(nother) house optimized for LAN Parties.
Two sit-stand desks in the back are our personal workstations. All game machines netboot from a shared disk image on this server. Dedicated A/C intakes from behind the machines and supplies cold air here. Egads! This photo has made a lot of network engineers angry! Response in the Q&A. An insanely unstable motherboard with 10G ethernet on-board. My (Kenton's) friends from junior high helped assemble the machines and pull the cables. Two call rooms allow taking meetings without bothering other people. Cat doors allow cats access to bedrooms when human doors are closed. We are Kenton Varda and Jade Wang . We've been married since 2014. This is our house, where we live with our two kids, in…from lanparty.house

The HN ArcadeJan 2026 · andrewgy8.github.io · ▲352I love seeing all the small games that people build and post to this site. I don't want to forget any, so I have built a directory/arcade for the games here that I maintain. Feel free to check it out, add your game if its missing and let me know what you think. Thanks!
I asked an HN member for feedback and she blew my mind2010 · slideshare.net · ▲453A few days ago, I responded to a comment by bloggergirl offering to read anyone's web copy and help. I shot off an email hoping for a paragraph or two of feedback on my startup's copy. Instead I received a professional, detailed deck of tons of invaluable well thought out feedback. It must have taken her an entire afternoon. Here's a link to it: http://www.slideshare.net/shereefb/recommendations-for-bettermeans To top it off, this isn't someone with a lot of free time on her hands, she's only days away from launching her own startup (page99test) This community blows my mind!
I built an interactive HN SimulatorNov 2025 · news.ysimulator.run · ▲538Hey HN! Just for fun, I built an interactive Hacker News Simulator. You can submit text posts and links, just like the real HN. But on HN Simulator, all of the comments are generated by LLMs + generate instantly. The best way to use it (IMHO) is to submit a text post or a curl-able URL here: https://news.ysimulator.run/submit. You don't need an account to post. When you do that, various prompts will be built from a library of commenter archetypes, moods, and shapes. The AI commenters will actually respond to your text post and/or submitted link. I really wanted it to feel…
Browse HN Together in Three.js2022 · threejs-example.hyperbeam.com · ▲268Hey HN, We’re Philip, Amby, and Declan, and we made “multiplayer virtual computers” that you can embed anywhere, including 3D spaces. We decided to build this because we noticed that embedding third-party apps and websites can be a nightmare due to incompatible platforms, security issues, and poor UX. Adding multiplayer functionality to these embeds makes this problem exponentially more difficult. On the backend, we’re spinning up a VM and running a resource-optimized fork of Chromium which we then stream to participants via WebRTC. Since we’re hosting the servers running the applications,…

Talanoa▲340Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Lovable▲1,477Hey HN! Previous CERN physicist turned hacker here. We've developed a way to make AI coding actually work by systematically identifying and fixing places where LLMs typically fail in full-stack development. Today we're launching as Lovable (previously gptengineer.app) since it's such a big change. The problem? AI writing code typically make small mistakes and then get stuck. Those who tried know the frustration. We fixed most of this by mapping out where LLMs fail in full-stack dev and engineering around those pitfalls with prompt chains. Thanks to this, in all comparisons I found with: v0,…
