What it does
My wife loves Yahtzee , but the problem with Yahtzee is that, as most games involving rolling dice, it's particularly hard to play on the go and has been relegated to the dinner table. This year, I decided to remedy that and make her a more portable version of the game. The result is a pocketable device with a machined aluminum case, tactile buttons, LED dice displays, and a custom PCB running firmware I compiled to WASM for browser-based testing before the hardware even arrived. You can try the simulator yourself to see how it plays. The whole project took about 5 weeks from initial concept to assembled, working device. With this in mind, I knew I needed to keep a physical paper score pad:…from friggeri.net

I made a little digital circuit simulator that operates on PNGs2022 · github.com · ▲259This is a little toy project of mine that lets you simulate digital logic graphs. It was inspired by Minecraft's Redstone and the Piet esolang. It's got some serious drawbacks-- you write circuits as PNGs and simulate them with a Python interface. It's slow to run and slow to experiment with. And it is certainly difficult to use for people with any kind of color blindness. But despite that, I hope this can still be a fun toy!
I built a handheld CHIP-8 game console to teach myself embedded systems2022 · github.com · ▲128A while back I wrote a CHIP-8 emulator (which is considered the Hello, World! of emulators and is more accurately a virtual machine since historically CHIP-8 was an interpreted language running on top of the COSMAC VIP to make game programming easier). But a few months ago I got really interested in embedded software, so decided it would be neat to port my emulator to a STM32 MCU and design a console around it as a learning experience, since CHIP-8 never existed as a physical system. I didn't know much about embedded software when I began, and even less about electronics, but I managed to…

Community, All the HN belong to you. This is an archive of hacker news that fits in your browser. When I made HN Made of Primes I realized I could probably do this offline sqlite/wasm thing with the whole GBs of archive. The whole dataset. So I tried it, and this is it. Have Hacker News on your device. Go to this repo (https://github.com/DOSAYGO-STUDIO/HackerBook): you can download it. Big Query -> ETL -> npx serve docs - that's it. 20 years of HN arguments and beauty, can be yours forever. So they'll never die. Ever. It's the unkillable static archive of HN and it's…
