I built an MCP server using Cloudflare's code mode pattern
Read this article by Cloudflare this morning https://blog.cloudflare.com/code-mode/ the main argument being that LLMs are much better at writing typescript code than tool calls because they've seen typescript code many more times. HN Discussion: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45399204 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45386248 Deno provides a great sandbox environment for Typescript code execution because of its permissions system which made it easy to spin up code that only has access to fetch and network calls. I built an MCP server using Cloudflare's code mode pattern launched on September 28, 2025 with 87 votes, #352 of 8,160 launches that month and more than 95% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.
In plain words
This is an MCP server that implements Cloudflare's code mode pattern, enabling LLMs to write TypeScript code directly instead of using tool calls. Built on Deno's sandbox environment for secure code execution with restricted permissions, it combines code generation with MCP tool calls for advanced workflow orchestration. Designed for developers building AI agents that need to execute code safely while maintaining access to network operations.

An implementation of the Codemode workflow detailed by Cloudflare. - jx-codes/codemode-mcp
A local implementation of the "Code Mode" workflow for MCP servers. Instead of struggling with multiple tool calls, LLMs write TypeScript/JavaScript code that calls a simple HTTP proxy to access your MCP servers. Note: It does not attempt to handle the MCP -> typescript API transpilation layer. Would be cool but I really wanted to test the workflow. This implements the core insight that LLMs are much better at writing code than at tool calling . Instead of exposing many tools directly to the LLM (which it struggles with), this server gives the LLM just one tool: execute_code . The LLM writes code that makes HTTP requests to access your other MCP servers. This gives you all the benefits of…from github.com

Code ModeNov 2025 · github.com · ▲144I’ve been testing a simple idea inspired by Apple/Cloudflare/Anthropic: LLMs are far better at writing a small program than coordinating multiple tool calls. So instead of giving the model 10+ tools, I exposed one: a TypeScript sandbox with access to the same interfaces. The model writes a script → it runs once → done. What changed - +68% reduction in token use - No multi-step drift or retries - Local models (Llama 3.1 8B / Phi-3) became much more reliable Repo: https://github.com/universal-tool-calling-protocol/code-mode Curious whether others have seen…

We maintain mcp-use an open-source TypeScript framework for building MCP servers and MCP Apps: https://github.com/mcp-use/mcp-use MCP is now (finally) stateless so we rewrote mcp-use v2 from scratch for the 2026-07-28 MCP spec revision: https://blog.modelcontextprotocol.io/posts/2026-07-28/ Thanks to the rebuild: - Throughput: +27% → from 8,615 to 10,982 median ops/sec - Cold launch: 2.2x faster → from 151.6 ms to 68.1 ms - Clean install: 82% smaller → from 404.6 MiB to 74.4 MiB Benchmark with methodology here:…
Gram FunctionsNov 2025 · speakeasy.com · ▲119Hi HN, Georges from the Gram team here. We're really excited to share a major update to Gram, our platform for curating tools for agents, in the form of Gram Functions. Gram initially started out by letting users upload OpenAPI documents and turning them into tools that can be curated into small MCP servers that power your agentic use cases. We've known for quite some time that many existing REST APIs are simply not suitable as LLM tools and we wanted to solve this problem by letting users simply write code and we would take care of deploying that code for them and hosting MCP servers. We…
- STSimple to build MCP servers that easily connect with custom LLM calls2025 · mirascope.com · ▲57
Hi! After learning about MCP, I'm really excited about the future of provider-agnostic, re-usable tooling. Unfortunately I've found that while it's easy to implement an MCP server for use with tools that support it (such as Claude Desktop), it's not as easy to implement your own support (such as integrating an MCP server into your own LLM application). We implemented a thin MCP wrapper that easily integrates with Mirascope calls so that you can hook up an MCP server and client super easily to any supported LLM provider. Excited to see what people build with this!
Just Fucking Use Cloudflare – A satirical guide to the CF stackDec 2025 · justfuckingusecloudflare.com · ▲33Inspired by the recent justfuckingusetailwind.com, I built a similar "love letter" to the Cloudflare ecosystem. I find myself reaching for Workers, R2, D1, and KV for almost every project lately, so I wanted to capture that sentiment in a single, slightly over-the-top page. It’s a simple side project, but the stack is: - Vite + TypeScript - Biome + Ultracite - Deployed (obviously) on Cloudflare First draft in Claude, the copy was drafted with Grok to get that specific tone, then I used Google's AI Studio to accelerate the build with touch up's in Cursor. Open-Source Notion MCP Server (TypeScript, SSE, Apify)Dec 2025 · github.com · ▲9Hello HN, I built this because I wanted to give Claude Desktop access to my Notion workspace without running a flaky local Python script via stdio. This is a Node.js/Express implementation of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) that uses SSE (Server-Sent Events) for transport. It’s designed to be stateless and deployable as a container (I'm hosting it on Apify, but it works anywhere with Node). The Stack: TypeScript + Express @modelcontextprotocol/sdk Zod for input validation Bearer Auth for security (since it exposes an HTTP endpoint) Capabilities: It allows the LLM to search pages,…

Talanoa▲340Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

I made a built-from scratch Wayland Compositor to display any GUI app* in the terminal! I think there is a lot of unexplored potential in custom Wayland compositors, a lot of really cool things you can embed existing applications into! So, I started with embedding apps into the terminal because that is the easiest input/output (output is just utf-8 and I use the great `chafa` library for that, and I just read from stdin for the input). If you have any other ideas for cool Wayland compositors, let me know. I purposedly wrote 80% the app in Typescript to appeal to the most developers and…

Years ago I stumbled across a basic version of this concept and it stuck with me. I knew if I was ever going to take on such a project, it would need to be flawless, but without coding experience it was just another idea that would never happen. By the end of 2024, as AI coding tools exploded everywhere, I finally had a way to make it real. I started from zero knowledge and spent months collaborating with AI agents as a learning experience. Every pixel and every function went through me. The AI translated what I asked for into code, but every decision was human. I didn't use existing OS…
