I can't say "I created a tool" because obviously I only had an idea, then asked Cursor to implement it and 15 minutes later it was ready ;) Often I found I was manually replacing em dashes with hyphens in AI-generated text before I use them in copy, PR descriptions etc. It still feels like a shame to flare the text "you wrote" was not really human made. To automate these removals, here it is: super tiny online page. I made it for myself, but whoever wants, you can use it as well. I am not going to monetize it or promote more than this post.

Using AI to generate text? Here you can clean it up by removing em dashes and emoji. AI writing tools love using em dashes (—), while most people naturally type a regular hyphen (-). Em dashes are technically fine, but they can be a visual giveaway that the text came from AI, because many people do not even know how to type anything other than a regular hyphen. When someone spots a lot of em dashes, they often assume it is machine-written right away. Paste your generated text here and copy the "cleaned" version before you share it and accidentally look lazy. You can also de-emojify the text - multiple emoji characters is the second most common giveaway that the text came from AI. Tip:…from undsh.com
