What it does

i made it because i got into an interesting disagreement with my friends (@meghanam4, @neongamerbot-qk, @froppii and @tanmayrajk) about which is the best package manager and they kept saying pnpm but i do NOT like pnpm (we have our differences </3) so i made my own so they can use this instead of pnpm. curl -sSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/v1peridae/vee/main/install.sh | sh option 2: build from source! git clone https://github.com/v1peridae/vee cargo install --path vee/vee quick start example vee create vite my-app cd my-app vee install vee run dev usage # global flags vee -v, --verbose # verbose logs vee -S, --simulate # prints what it would do # project + dependencies vee install #…from github.com

  • A minimal working Rust / SDL2 / WASM browser game2024 · github.com · ▲82

"Game" is a stretch, but I put together this repo containing a pure Rust app which uses SDL2 and compiles to WASM (and can be run in a browser). Older resources were a bit out of date and a bit too verbose for my purposes, so here's a minimal working example.

  • Brioche – A new Nix-like package manager2024 · brioche.dev · ▲168

This is a project I've wanted to write for a long time now. I really love the ideas from Nix and I still have a ton of respect for the project, but Nix-the-language never felt intuitive to me and I wanted something with more approachable tooling (although this was circa 2016, so I'm sure Nix has improved a lot since then too-- that was before Flakes were around!) Anyway, I started on the current iteration of Brioche about 6 months ago, and I finally cut an initial release. I'd still consider this a "technical preview" version (performance especially is pretty painful, so that'll be a focus…

  • The Missing Open Source Package Manager for Kubernetes Beyond Helm2024 · github.com · ▲20

Hi, we are a small team from Vienna and today released our first version of a Package Manager similar to apt, Homebrew, or Chocolatey, but specifically tailored for Kubernetes environments and cloud-native software. Originally, we wanted to contribute to the Kubernetes ecosystem with a different idea; however, after talking to the community, we uncovered that package management is an even bigger problem at the moment. We are now looking for as much feedback as possible, so we would really appreciate it if you could check it out and let us know what you think! Thanks!

  • I rebuilt the only parts of my IDE I use, in Rust, over a weekendJun 2026 · github.com · ▲50

I don't know Rust. Friday after work I realised that 90% of my IDE time now is just the commit/diff view — and even good IDEs feel heavy for that. So over the weekend I built a dedicated native tool for just that. Kyde is a macOS git commit + diff editor with one goal: be fast, do Git well. I'm curious whether anyone else mostly opens their IDE for git operations these days. It's open source, and there's a signed app in Releases.

Our package registry ecosystem has a serious problem... and not just npm. People are aware of this but maybe this will make them a bit more aware

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
