I turned an infographics standard into an open-source book

CC-licensed design guide for presentations, reports, and dashboards.

I turned an infographics standard into an open-source book launched on April 14, 2021 with 16 votes, #1,236 of 3,754 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 5 years on.

In plain words

This is an open-source book that documents an infographics standard. Launched in 2021, it makes a previously proprietary standard accessible to developers and designers working with infographics. The project converts technical specifications into an openly available resource, allowing anyone to reference, contribute to, and build upon the standard without licensing restrictions.

From the sources

Fortunately, IBCS published the guide under the permissive CC BY-SA license. So with some hard work and a bunch of Python I've created a web version , EPUB and PDF . IBCS Association put a lot of thought it the guide, and the result really impressed me. So I encourage you to try itfrom antonz.org

It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
