In plain words

This bookmarklet and userscript highlights new stories on the Hacker News front page, making it easier to spot recent submissions at a glance. It works as a browser tool that modifies the HN page display without requiring installation of additional software. The tool is designed for frequent HN readers who want to quickly identify which stories are newly posted rather than scrolling through the entire listing.

When used as a userscript, whenever you visit hn frontpage, all post will have a rank indicator in front including indicator for new stories since your last visit. On HN frontpage, click bookmarklet and it will indicate change in stories from the last time when you ran the bookmarklet. Hiya. Have you considered also including https://news.ycombinator.com/newest ? (See https://greasyfork.org/scripts/39311-hacker-news-highlighter for inspiration. Also, I think your entry on Greasyfork is not synced to your updates here. @realAzazello including /newest doesn't make any sense to me because it will always be showing you newest anyway. • I was tired of opening 2 tabs for every HN link, so I made a userscriptJul 2026 · github.com · ▲433

HN is great for the links people share, but a big part of the value I get comes from reading the discussion around them. I realized I was always opening the article in one tab and the comments in another, constantly switching back and forth. I figured there was probably a simpler way, so I threw together this userscript to merge the two. 1. Clicking a link from Hacker News opens the article with a side panel containing the discussion. It doesn't require your credentials, is resizable, and is easy to tweak if you want to customize it. 2. If you land on an article that has previously been…

    Hacker News Title Edit Tracker2019 · hackernewstitles.netlify.com · ▲366

I built this several months ago as I was interested to see how the titles of posts evolve/change on HN. It turns out lots of titles are edited every day (in both subjectively and objectively good and bad ways!) and I've found it interesting to see how titles have evolved. The whole thing is automated and is built around a Ruby script that pulls down the titles on the front page at a frequent interval. Any titles for specific story IDs that change get tracked and rendered out to a static HTML page hosted on Netlify. It runs by itself without incident so far. This has been on Show HN…

  • Hey there HN! We’re Joe and Stopa, and today we’re open sourcing InstantDB, a client-side database that makes it easy to build real-time and collaborative apps like Notion and Figma. Building modern apps these days involves a lot of schleps. For a basic CRUD app you need to spin up servers, wire up endpoints, integrate auth, add permissions, and then marshal data from the backend to the frontend and back again. If you want to deliver a buttery smooth user experience, you’ll need to add optimistic updates and rollbacks. We do these steps over and over for every feature we build, which can…
