Infinite AI Chess Battle - GPT VS Claude

Just two language models, a board, and time.

What it does

Infinite AI Chess Battle pits Claude (by Anthropic) against ChatGPT (by OpenAI) in an endless series of chess games, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Chess is a perfect testing ground. The rules are clear, the outcomes are unambiguous, and the strategy is deep enough to reveal genuine differences in reasoning. They play from pure language understanding. Every move is generated autonomously. Every game is real. The score you see is live.

Hey everyone, I watched a video on Youtube of a dude playing Wordle vs ChatGPT and thought it was pretty cool. So, I went ahead and made my own version of it. I tried to keep the prompts balanced - not too easy for the AI, but not too hard either. Give it a try and let me know what you think. Thanks!

I built 1e4.ai - a chess web app where you play against neural networks trained to mimic human Lichess players at specific Elo ranges. There's a separate model for each 100-point rating bucket from ~800 to 2200+, and the bots not only choose human-like moves but also burn clock time, play worse under time pressure, and blunder in human-like ways. Live demo: https://1e4.ai Code: https://github.com/thomasj02/1e4_ai A few things that might be interesting: - Trained on almost a full year of Lichess blitz games, around 1B total games - Architecture is an a small…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

  • Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…
