IS IT SHIT?
The real-time hype checker for tech trends
IS IT SHIT? launched on May 3, 2026 with 2 votes, #6,288 of 20,538 launches that month.
What it does
Tired of the 24/7 hype cycle? "Is It Shit?" is a real-time social experiment in collective art. Everyone is an artist. When you vote, you place a permanent pixel on a 100x100 mosaic, co-creating a historical record of what's hot vs what's bullshit. 🚀 How it works: Claim a spot: Pick your pixel. Cast your vote: SHIT 💩 or HOT 🔥. Seal the history: Once we hit 10k votes, the artwork is frozen forever. Are you an artist or a judge? Join the arena and leave your mark.

Shite – little hot-reloadin' static site maker from shell2023 · github.com · ▲141Or more precisely, my little site maker... It is a personal tool that I thoroughly enjoyed making, and enjoy using to write my website . A caveat before any more; nobody was supposed to promote this insanity. Like, terrible things have been done involving inotify and xdotool. But. It showed up on HN some months ago. That too while it was still, shall we say, fermenting. It got "done" some time thence, and of course one could not let the half-past just be. So here we are, for better or worse. Thank you HN mods for helping me repost! _\\// The README explains all, animated GIFs and…

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
