IssuePay – Get paid for open-source contributions

Hi HN! I’m Mario, and I’m about to launch IssuePay. Problem: Open-source contributors don’t get direct financial recognition for their work. Solution: IssuePay lets maintainers post bounties on GitHub/GitLab issues. Contributors pick tasks, merge code, and get paid automatically. You can then withdraw your earnings directly to your Bank Account. Try it out: https://issuepay.app Questions: Would love feedback on our UX, payout reliability, or any scaling tips. Note: Open to partnerships with OSS communities! Thank you, guys ! <3

IssuePay – Get paid for open-source contributions launched on June 27, 2025 with 8 votes, #3,354 of 7,999 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.

Hello HN community! As a long-time Github user, I often had issues with public repositories that remained open for a long time. This is due to multiple reasons, such as the lack of resources or prioritization. Sponsoring a repository isn't always the best idea because most of the time, contributors are not the ones receiving money. I came up with a solution: put bounties on GitHub issues to incentivize open-source contributors to fix issues even if they're not directly affected by them. This tool is not intended to force any unwanted additions to a GitHub project, but mainly to help with…

Last year I gave in to the temptation of doing my own startup and quit my job, just like many others have done on this site. Since then, I’ve severely changed my lifestyle and reduced my living costs to a crazy low figure and worked my ass off for the last 8 months to achieve this: www.openloopz.com I have written more about it on Medium here: http://goo.gl/JN03yf I knew from the start the odds were stacked against me. I’m almost 36, I have a family and I live in the North East of England where - without wanting to sound negative - the opportunities are few and far between…

We strongly believe working on open source software should be a viable source of income for many more developers. Unfortunately, the following barriers limit the extent of open source funding: - Only a small fraction of open source projects are funded, and most money goes to a few notable projects. - Each project has to market is self to get significant funding. - Large corporate donations provide the bulk of the funding, making it unreliable and unattainable for many. - Finding and supporting each of your dependencies is a cumbersome task. Which ones, how much, and on which platforms? So we…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Hey HN! Pilots everywhere are required to keep a logbook of all their flying hours, aircraft, airports, and so on. Since I track everything digitally (some people still just use paper logbooks!), I put together some data visualizations and a few 3D globes to show my flying history. This globe is probably my favourite so far: https://jameshard.ing/pilot/globes/all If you’ve got ideas for other graphs or ways to show this kind of data, I’d love to hear them!

  • I was the main contributor to workout.lol, an open-source fitness app to easily build a workout routine. The project had traction (1.4k GitHub stars, 95 forks, ~20K visits/month), but was eventually sold due to video licensing hurdles. The new owner stopped maintaining it, and the repo went abandoned. Over the next 9 months, I sent 15 emails to try to save it : no replies. Feature requests & issues were ignored. The community was left with a "broken" tool let's say. I couldn't just let it die So I built the new version from scratch with the same open-source spirit, but a better…
