Kerns, an AI interface to understand anything, better than NotebookLM

I'm building out Kerns, as an AI environment for research. You can seed a space with a topic and multiple source documents, and complete your research completely in one space. There's interactive mindmaps for exploration, podcast mode, powerful source readers with original plus chapter level summaries that let you zoom into source on demand, a powerful chat agent that lets you control context and cite refs, and AI assisted note taking. My goal is to have one place to do research on any topic which minimizes manual context engineering, and jumping around between chat/notes/readers.…

    Kerns – A Continuous Research WorkspaceJan 2026 · kerns.ai · ▲5

Most research tools help you collect links. Kerns is built for ongoing research. You define topics and sources once. Kerns continuously tracks them over time, surfaces what changes, and structures the material so understanding compounds instead of resetting each session. The key difference is the interface layer. Beyond feeds and summaries, Kerns organizes research into reasoning-ready views—maps, structured summaries, and synthesized perspectives—so you can actually think through complex areas rather than just store information. We built this for people doing deep, long-running research…

    Echologue – the private AI voice journal I built for myselfJul 2026 · echologue.com · ▲29

I have tried journaling many times but nothing stuck. So I decided to make my own app for myself with these features: * Voice first * Private first * AI chat * Automatic tagging, meaning extraction, and semantic retrieval using embeddings stored locally * Export to LLM the AI angle is especially interesting for me. It allows me to ask questions like: * "remind me highlights and crazy nights in the last 3 months" * "How was I feeling during my trip in Spain and how big of a problem was my breakup" * "How would you judge my overall interactions with Marc after I told him about my problems" the…

    I made Echo, a interview coach for iOS2024 · apps.apple.com · ▲7

This is the first version of an app idea I had last month as a way to dip my toes into some of the AI APIs. The idea is you can record yourself answering and rehearsing what you'll say to common interview questions, and receive AI feedback on how you did and how you can improve. In the future I may expand into other subject areas, but wanted to scope it to the behavioral interview format for the time being. Super open to feedback and suggestions!

    I built an open-source Apple Intelligence-like Writing Tool for Windows2024 · github.com · ▲9

As a high school student, I love LLMs and the execution of Apple's Appel Intelligence Writing Tools, but was disappointed that nothing like that existed for Windows. So, I created Writing Tools, a better than Apple Intelligence open-source alternative that works system-wide on Windows! Key features: - Uses Google's Gemini 1.5 Flash model for superior AI-assisted writing (much better than the tiny 2B parameter Apple Intelligence model) - Works in any application with a customizable hotkey - Proofreads, rewrites, summarizes, and more - Free and privacy-focused (your API key stays local, no…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

  • Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…
