In plain words

KnightOS is an open-source operating system designed for calculators. The project provides an SDK for building packages, though it experienced a period when package hosting was unavailable. Recently, alternative hosting was set up and the SDK was updated to support it, restoring core functionality. KnightOS is intended for developers interested in calculator software development and customization.

From the sources

The KnightOS SDK has been unable to build packages for years, as the prior host of packages.knightos.org has been offline, and no replacement was forthcoming. Recently, Max Leiter set up an alternative host with some core packages, and patched the SDK to support using it. KnightOS holds a special place in my heart, and it probably always will. It’s lodged right next to some of the tubes, and the doctors say there’s no way I would survive attempting to remove it. It’s a tragedy really, but I make the most of it. Your pointy swords won’t ensnare me forever, KnightOS! Eventually I’ll be dead! Ha! As a calculator programming hobbyist and open source enthusiast, I have been watching KnightOS’s…from knightos.org

You know that old TI calculator you used in high school, then put in a box and forgot about? Have you ever wished you had an operating system for your calculator with preemptive multitasking, dynamic memory management, a tree filesystem conforming to the FHS, and all the comforts of Unix? Well, good news: that's totally a thing that exists. I've been working on my kernel for about three and a half years now and I'm looking for new contributors to help out. It's written entirely in z80 assembly, and it's both challenging and fun to work on. There's an IRC channel for contributors or people…

It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
