In plain words

Knitting is a zero-dependency concurrency runtime for Node.js, Deno, and Bun that enables developers to run typed JavaScript tasks on threads or isolated processes without blocking the main thread. It allows computationally heavy operations like HTML compression, React rendering, and JWT signing to execute separately, freeing up the main thread to handle requests more responsively. Developers define functions at the module top level and await results like standard async calls.

This Hono route compresses HTML in a worker and returns the compressed size. You can also try thread pools on Andromeda , where support is still experimental. Define and export the function at the top level of its module. Use await to get the result, just like any other async call. When the main thread is busy, even a simple /ping has to wait. Moving React rendering and JWT signing into one worker leaves more room for the main thread to respond. In this Hono benchmark, /ping responded sooner at the same load, with roughly the same CPU use. The ping route itself stayed on the main thread. Measured in 15-second runs with one worker. Results depend on your workload and pool size. Pass ordinary…from js.knitting.run

Colin here, creator of Nub. I’ve had the general shape of this in mind for years. Nub runs your code with stock `node`, augmented with a `--require` preload hook[0] that adds a transpiler (oxc-powered, packaged as a Node-API add-on), registers a module resolution hook[1], and injects polyfills as needed for APIs like `Worker`, `Temporal`, etc. All purely additive, your code ultimately runs using Node’s actual engine & stdlib implementations. We've been building Crust (https://crustjs.com/), a TypeScript-first, Bun-native CLI framework with zero dependencies. It's been powering our core product internally for a while, and we're now open-sourcing it. The problem we kept running into: existing CLI frameworks in the JS ecosystem are either minimal arg parsers where you wire everything yourself, or heavyweight frameworks with large dependency trees and Node-era assumptions. We wanted something in between. What Crust does differently: - Full type inference from definitions — args and flags are inferred automatically. No…
