In plain words

LA Wildfire Satellite Analysis is a tool for monitoring and analyzing wildfires in the Los Angeles area using satellite imagery. It's designed for people interested in tracking fire activity, understanding fire patterns, or conducting research on wildfire behavior. The tool provides satellite-based data visualization to help users see real-time or recent fire locations and their progression across the region.

From the sources

3.9 micron data from the GOES-16 East and GOES-18 West satellites on the January 2025 Southern California fires. We download the reprojected data from UW SSEC's RealEarth program . Each image is 128x128 pixels, centered at (34.1, -118.4). Each pixel is 1.0 km. The satellites measure the temperatures of the topmost infrared-opaque region in the atmosphere, which may exaggerate the extent of fires from heated smoke, or hide the extent from cloud cover. You can see how quickly the fires initially grow — up to a square mile every minute at first — fueled by dry vegetation and strong winds. This shows the extreme difficulty of containment. The code combines the two satellites' data for increased…from github.com

  • Signet – Autonomous wildfire tracking from satellite and weather dataMar 2026 · signet.watch · ▲123

I built Signet in Go to see if an autonomous system could handle the wildfire monitoring loop that people currently run by hand - checking satellite feeds, pulling up weather, looking at terrain and fuels, deciding whether a detection is actually a fire worth tracking. All the data already exists: NASA FIRMS thermal detections, GOES-19 imagery, NWS forecasts, LANDFIRE fuel models, USGS elevation, Census population data, OpenStreetMap. The problem is it arrives from different sources on different cadences in different formats. Most of the system is deterministic plumbing - ingestion, spatial…

I realized that the PDF engines of modern desktop browsers (PDFium and PDF.js) support JavaScript with enough I/O primitives to make a basic game like Tetris. It was a bit tricky to find a union of features that work in both engines, but in the end it turns out that showing/hiding annotation "fields" works well to make monochrome pixels, and keyboard input can be achieved by typing in a text input box. All in all it's quite janky but a nice reminder of how general purpose PDF scripting can be. The linked PDF is all ASCII so you can just open it in a text editor, or have a look at…

I originally built this app to organize and reuse interesting React + Tailwind components I came across on Twitter, inspired by the shadcn/ui approach. Later, a friend started contributing their own components, and it got me thinking—this could grow into something bigger, like an NPM for design engineers to share and use components. Would love to hear your thoughts!
