Lap photo manager

I’ve been a software engineer for 10+ years and a hobby photographer for even longer. Over time my family archive grew to 100k+ photos and videos, and browsing it smoothly on macOS became surprisingly hard. So I started building Lap app. The current focus (v0.1.6) is simple: fast local photo library browsing and management - Smooth scrolling through very large libraries - Works directly on your existing folders (no import/catalog) - Fully local Planned next: deduplication, photo comparison tools, and RAW support.

Lap photo manager launched on March 9, 2026 with 8 votes, #1,340 of 23,380 launches that month and more than 90% of that year's launches.

What it does

Lap is a fast, local-first photo manager built for large personal photo libraries. Unlike many modern tools that rely on cloud services, Lap runs completely offline and keeps your photos private on your own machine. It focuses on fast indexing, smooth browsing, and simple folder-based organization. Built with Rust, SQLite, and Tauri, Lap aims to be a lightweight open-source alternative to traditional photo managers.

Hi, I'm a developer and first time i shipped the real product after observing the startups and indie hackers community for years. I had made so many useless apps [you should check my website https://ansh.life], but this time I built a very useful product that has a number of super easy-to-use tools in one app for video, music, and photo files. Users can compress, convert, resize, and do so much more with easy-to-use tools. Background: I developed a frame-by-frame video cropper to upload cropped landscape videos to Instagram Reels. However, it required FFmpeg, and as a noob video…

Hi HN, I built Cliptop, a clipboard history app for macOS. Yes, it is another clipboard manager. I built it because I wanted one that felt fast from the keyboard, stayed local, handled more than plain text, and did not make me think too much about sensitive clipboard items. The main things I focused on: * Keyboard-first search and paste * Local clipboard history for text, links, code, images, files, colors, and design layers (e.g. Figma) * Quick actions like paste as plain text, color format conversion, image crop, background removal, and Markdown conversion * Pinboards for saving items and…

  • Fast, native Mac file manager (filters, fuzzy find, 9 MB, no Electron)Jul 2026 · whimfiles.com · ▲98

My Downloads folder had been left unkept for a really long time and cleaning it up using Finder was quite cumbersome. So I started creating a simple app to help me filter out and delete or move the files in the folder. It started out very basic and the filtering options genuinely helped me clean out the Downloads folder, then as I thought of more features I would like to see in a file manager I started to add them. Some of the features are: - Fuzzy go to folder/file where you only need to write a few letters of a full path, get suggestions and can jump to the correct path instantly -…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
