In plain words

This tool addresses the waiting time paradox for London commuters. It helps users understand why the average wait time for buses often feels longer than official statistics suggest. The product is designed for Londoners who use public transport regularly and want to make sense of their transit experience. It provides an explanation of the mathematical principle behind perceived versus actual waiting times on the city's bus network.

There is a lot to be said about timetables. Buses in particular have a complex relationship with their timetables that can differ between countries, cities and even operators within the same city. In the UK, where I live, there are usually timetables provided for passengers to help them plan their journeys. In rural and suburban areas, a bus may come at a very specific time, while urban and other busy areas may have timetables specifying that buses on a route should arrive at some constant interval. On the other hand, when I was travelling in Rwanda in 2011, I was impressed by the fact that many of the buses did not run according to any timetable at all! Buses left when they were full…from michalpaszkiewicz.co.uk

I often need to convert times between time zones, so I built this tool to convert between them quickly and efficiently. 1. Add the cities you want to convert between (this is saved in the browser). 2. Drag on the map until the time on the source city is the time you want. 3. Look at the time at the other city. It's even more helpful to use on a phone since it doesn't require typing to convert between time zones or look up the time in another city (assuming you already added the cities you care about). If you need to convert a time far in the future, you can input the date and time in the…

This was something I built while trying to look for housing in Toronto that was decently transit-accessible to my office while still cheap. The backend is written in Rust. It parses public GTFS data from transit agencies and performs a simple heuristics-based BFS on the bus lines to calculate how long to reach all points in a city. The frontend uses React and Mapbox GL to render each individual road segment based on how long it takes to reach. This project was a great excuse to learn Rust, deployments, and mapping.
