Luxonis – OAK 4: spatial AI camera that runs Linux, with up to 52 TOPS
Hey everyone. This is Hunter, CPO at Luxonis! We built OAK 4 (www.luxonis.com/oak4) to eliminate the need for cloud reliance or host computers in robotics & industrial automation. We brought Jetson Orin-level compute and Yocto Linux directly to our stereo cameras. This allows you to run full CV pipelines (detection + depth + logic) entirely on-device, with no dependency on a host PC or cloud streaming. We also integrated it with Hub, our fleet management platform, to handle deployments, OTA updates, and collect "edge case" (Snaps) for model retraining. For this generation, we shipped a…

In plain words
Luxonis OAK 4 is a stereo camera with integrated Linux and 52 TOPS of AI processing power designed for robotics and industrial automation. It runs computer vision pipelines—including detection, depth analysis, and logic—entirely on-device without requiring a host computer or cloud connection. The camera houses a Qualcomm processor with CPU, GPU, and AI accelerator capabilities in an IP67-rated enclosure and operates at 25W without active cooling. It integrates with Luxonis Hub for fleet management, over-the-air updates, and edge case collection for model improvement.

It made my app DMG have 5.3 GB in size, but I think it is a small size for the power that this free local model can provide. It runs fine on CPU, but can also run on Apple Silicon GPU, although I did not notice any performance improvements with GPU (tested on a M5 chip). I think these local lightweight and multimodal models will open multiple possibilities for new software tools where privacy is essential.
I built an open-source AI system for drones2023 · github.com · ▲5Hey HN! I just released a suite of AI models for deployment on UAV and other "overhead" devices to provide some understanding of the world below. The objective is to empower all sorts of open-source use cases around search and rescue, wildfire prevention, ground risk mitigation for flight over populated areas etc... The neural networks are trained for a bunch of different devices from big GPUs to tiny edge AI cameras like the Luxonis OAK, with some optimised ones for Nvidia TensorRT and other cool bits and pieces too. The main release package also includes some boilerplate code for running…

Community, All the HN belong to you. This is an archive of hacker news that fits in your browser. When I made HN Made of Primes I realized I could probably do this offline sqlite/wasm thing with the whole GBs of archive. The whole dataset. So I tried it, and this is it. Have Hacker News on your device. Go to this repo (https://github.com/DOSAYGO-STUDIO/HackerBook): you can download it. Big Query -> ETL -> npx serve docs - that's it. 20 years of HN arguments and beauty, can be yours forever. So they'll never die. Ever. It's the unkillable static archive of HN and it's…
