Map drawing tool where the map lives in the URL

For the past 2 years, my girlfriend and I have been software engineers at CERN working for the ALICE and CMS experiments. A few months ago we decided to leave and focus full time on building our own products as we realised we'll never make the jump otherwise. Draw on a Map is the first one we've shipped and it already has nearly 300 users. Draw on a Map doesn't need an account for you to draw and share, and the map stays in the URL fragment (not sent to the server) when not logged in. You can open, draw, share in a matter of 30 seconds. The app is built on top of Cloudflare and using the…

What it does

In the maker’s words, at launch

For the past 2 years, my girlfriend and I have been software engineers at CERN working for the ALICE and CMS experiments. A few months ago we decided to leave and focus full time on building our own products as we realised we'll never make the jump otherwise. Draw on a Map is the first one we've shipped and it already has nearly 300 users. Draw on a Map doesn't need an account for you to draw and share, and the map stays in the URL fragment (not sent to the server) when not logged in. You can open, draw, share in a matter of 30 seconds. The app is built on top of Cloudflare and using the data from OpenStreetMap. We wanted something lean that doesn't require a big time investment to learn how to use. Would highly appreciate any feedback!

  • Hi HN, I built Eigendrum, a web tool that solves the 2D wave equation for arbitrary shapes so you can hear what they sound like as drums. How it works: * Solves -∇²u = λu using finite element analysis (Kφ = λMφ) on a triangle mesh. * Validated to <0.1% error against closed-form solutions for circles (Bessel zeros) and rectangles. * Sound model factors in strike location, Rayleigh damping, and mallet width. * Includes Kac drums I & II to demonstrate identical sound spectra from different geometries. * No frameworks, build steps, or dependencies. Repo and tests:…

Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
