Message Album
Save one iMessage conversation as a private offline album
What it does
A native Mac app that exports one Messages conversation at a time into a searchable, iMessage-style offline website with the photos, videos and voice notes stored on your Mac. Reads your library without changing it. No account, no cloud, nothing leaves your Mac.
Message Album is a native macOS app that exports one Messages conversation at a time into a private, searchable offline archive: every message from both sides, every attachment, and a checksum manifest. Nothing leaves your Mac.
Message Album exports a single Messages thread into a searchable offline archive: both sides of the conversation, the photos, videos and voice notes stored on your Mac, and a manifest of checksums. It opens in any browser, with no app, no account and no server. Backups are built to put a phone back the way it was. They are not built to give you one thread you can read, search, and still open in twenty years. The moment you leave the platform, cancel the storage plan, or delete the conversation on one device, a backup stops being a way to reach it. An export is ordinary HTML, JSON and Markdown in a plain folder. Reading it later needs a browser, not an account, a subscription, or this app.…from messagealbum.com

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
