In plain words
Microcrad is a C implementation of Micrograd, an educational library for automatic differentiation and neural networks. It recreates the functionality of the original Python project in the C programming language, making it suitable for developers and students learning about machine learning fundamentals who prefer working in C. The project is available on GitHub for those interested in understanding how neural networks and backpropagation work at a lower level.

microcrad is a tiny scalar-valued automatic differentiation engine for C, with a small neural network implementation built on top of it. It is a re-implementation of Andrej Karpathy's micrograd in C, written for people who want to understand how backpropagation really works. Like the Python original, microcrad operates on scalars , not tensors. Every number that takes part in a computation is a node in a graph, every operation records how it was produced, and a single backward pass walks the graph in reverse to compute the derivative of the output with respect to every input. There is no vectorization, no GPU, no clever tricks: just the chain rule applied one scalar at a time. On top of…from github.com

Boldly go where Gradient Descent has never gone before with DiscoGrad2024 · github.com · ▲232Trying to do gradient descent using automatic differentiation over branchy programs? Or to combine them with neural networks for end-to-end training? Then this might be interesting to you. We develped DiscoGrad, a tool for automatic differentiation through C++ programs involving input-dependent control flow (e.g., "if (f(x) < c) { ... }", differentiating wrt. x) and randomness. Our initial motivation was to enable the use of gradient descent with simulations, which often rely heavily on such discrete branching. The latter makes plain autodiff mostly useless, since it can only account for the…

very much inspired by karpathy's microgpt of the same name. it's (by default) a 4000 param GPT/LLM/NN that learns to generate names. this is sorta an educational tool in that you can visualize the activations as they pass through the network, and click on things to get an explanation of them.

Hi all! I'm going into my freshman year, and figured that the best way to prepare for the intro to programming Racket course would be to implement my own garbage-collected, dynamically typed, functional programming language in C ;) Anyways... here's the repo: https://github.com/liam-ilan/crumb I started learning C over the summer, so I still have a whole lot to learn... Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! :D

Talanoa▲340Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Homebrew 6.0.0▲1,481Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!

Hi HN! I was super frustrated at apps like tiktok and wechat preventing me from saving or downloading the animated gifs, so I made a little tool to turn a screen recording into a slack-sized emoji. Hope you get some value from this!
