Using MindShield feels like using AI normally which means it is easy to get used to. MindShield focuses on questions to let casual conversations slip, it checks if a question is knowledge or reasoning based, making you stop and think for questions you can reason a answer to.

MindShield is a lightweight browser extension that adds a brief reflection pause when you try to use AI for simple tasks you could potentially handle yourself. It doesn't try to stop you from using AI. It helps you decide when you actually need it . Chrome and Chromium-based browsers currently require a manual installation. AI makes it incredibly easy to ask for an answer before you've had a chance to think about the problem yourself. MindShield adds a small amount of friction to those moments. I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy.
