ModSecurity 3.0

Open Source, Cross-Platform Web Application Firewall

ModSecurity 3.0 launched on April 9, 2018 with 4 votes. The site was still online in September 2026, 8 years on.

What it does

ModSecurity is a toolkit for real-time web application monitoring, logging, and access control. I like to think about it as an enabler: there are no hard rules telling you what to do; instead, it is up to you to choose your own path through the available features

Open Source Web Application Firewall

ModSecurity is an open source, cross-platform web application firewall (WAF) module. Known as the “Swiss Army Knife” of WAFs, it enables web application defenders to gain visibility into HTTP(S) traffic and provides a power rules language and API to implement advanced protections. Used by businesses, government organizations, internet service providers, and commercial WAF vendors alike on millions of domains all over the world. The engine, coupled with OWASP CRS - the dominant WAF rule set, undeniably raises the level of protection against HTTP attacks to a higher level. 🗺️ Join us on Slack for discussions, see GitHub for our projects, or follow us on Twitter.…from modsecurity.org

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
