My website looks like it went through a photocopier

After 10 years on WordPress, I'm making a big change.

In plain words

Justin Jackson's personal website documents his transition from WordPress to a static site generator after ten years of blogging. The site showcases his writing and explains the practical benefits of his new approach, including easier backups stored locally, in cloud storage, and on GitHub, plus greater long-term accessibility and preservation of his content for the future.

This website turned ten this year. I've been writing on justinjackson.ca since 2008 . For all those years, I've used WordPress. But, recently I decided to switch to a new CMS. You can't do that (easily) with a WordPress database. Sidenote. This will sound morbid, but I've also been asking "What's going to happen to this site when I die?" At the very least my family might want a backup of my writing. I'd rather not have to leave them a letter that says: "Upon my death, please use phpMyAdmin to view my post data." Hey folks, I would like to show you a new WordPress plugin and ask you for your opinion. The plugin allows you to find large files in your WordPress installation. This is useful, for example, when hard disk space is running low or backups are becoming too large or taking too long. If you like it, I am happy to get a rating on wordpress.org. I am thankful for any review / comment! Thanks, Marcel

Personal Site, and the Static Site Generator I Wrote to Build It2019 · ▲13

Hi HN, This one's a twofer. First, I'm showing off my personal site and blog, garrettgoss.com [1]. I'm looking to make a career change — from biomedical engineering/biomedical research, to research and development engineering in the consumer product development/additive manufacturing space — and felt that my prior work experience inadequately reflected my true interests and skills, which are better exemplified by my side projects. I put this together for myself, to better document my own work, for the broader internet, to share some of the projects I've developed to those who might…
