In plain words

A metalworker documents their project of converting a decommissioned Romanian AK-47 rifle into a serving ladle. The creator purchased the rifle as a parts kit while serving in the navy and decided to repurpose the weapon into kitchenware instead of building a functional firearm. The project showcases the barrel assembly transformed into a spoon, with plans to repurpose the remaining rifle components.

From the sources

This passage inspired me to convert this former AK-47 into a serving ladle. This fully automatic AK-47 was used by the Romanian army during the Cold War. It could shoot 600 rounds per minute with an effective range of 400 yards. After the Cold War, the Romanians sold these rifles as “parts kits” for hobbyists to build their own rifle. I bought one while I was in the navy, but now I wanted to try doing something a little cooler with it. This is a closeup of the the barrel assembly that I actually made into a spoon. I’m still looking for ideas on what to make out of everything else. Here’s a closeup of the end where the bullet enters the barrel. On top is the “rear sights.” This is adjustable…from izbicki.me

Hey HN! I'm a bit of a knife steel geek and got tired of juggling tabs to compare stats. So, I built this tool: https://new.knife.day/blog/knife-steel-comparisons/all It lets you pick steels (like the ones in the screenshot) and see a radar chart comparing their edge retention, toughness, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening on a simple 1-10 scale. It's already been super handy for me, and I thought fellow knife/metallurgy enthusiasts here might find it useful too. Would love to hear your thoughts or any steel requests! Cheers!
