Nerdlog – Fast, multi-host TUI log viewer with timeline histogram
For more background and technical details, I wrote this up as well: https://dmitryfrank.com/projects/nerdlog/article
In plain words
Nerdlog is a terminal-based log viewer designed to quickly search and analyze logs from multiple hosts simultaneously. It displays log data with a timeline histogram visualization, making it easier to identify patterns and anomalies across distributed systems. The tool is built for developers and system administrators who need efficient log inspection from the command line without leaving their terminal environment.

Hey everyone! I’m working on Telescope - an open-source web-based log viewer designed to make working with logs stored in ClickHouse easier and more intuitive. I wasn’t happy with existing log viewers - most of them force a specific log format, are tied to ingestion pipelines, or are just a small part of a larger platform. Others didn’t display logs the way I wanted. So I decided to build my own lightweight, flexible log viewer - one that actually fits my needs. Check it out: Video demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IItMOXwugY GitHub:…

Hi Everyone! Kubetail is a general-purpose logging dashboard for Kubernetes, optimized for tailing logs across multi-container workloads in real-time. With Kubetail, you can view logs from all the containers in a workload (e.g. Deployment or DaemonSet) merged into a single chronological timeline, delivered to your browser or terminal. I launched Kubetail on HN last year and at that time the top request was to add search. Now I'm happy to say we finally have search available in our latest official release (cli/v0.4.3, helm/v0.10.1). You can check it out in action here:…

There are multiple programs for working with log files, both inside and outside of the terminal. These tools are feature rich and functional and offer lots of control to the user. However, a lot of the time I found myself just opening raw log files in `less`. I enjoy the simplicity of quickly skimming through the logs, but it was difficult when the wall of text was in one color. For this reason, I created a command line tool called `tailspin` (the name is a take on the `tail` command) that did one thing: highlighting of log files. It is configurable, but requires no setup. It defaults to…

Hi everyone, I built PyXL — a hardware processor that executes a custom assembly generated from Python programs, without using a traditional interpreter or virtual machine. It compiles Python -> CPython Bytecode -> Instruction set designed for direct hardware execution. I’m sharing an early benchmark: a GPIO test where PyXL achieves a 480ns round-trip toggle — compared to 14-25 micro seconds on a MicroPython Pyboard - even though PyXL runs at a lower clock (100MHz vs. 168MHz). The design is stack-based, fully pipelined, and preserves Python's dynamic typing without static type restrictions.…
