What it does

Netlora is a free, browser-based internet diagnostic that measures the connection quality metrics standard speed tests skip. When your internet feels slow despite a fast speed test result, the cause is almost always bufferbloat — excess queuing delay that only appears when the connection is under real load. A standard speed test measures peak throughput and idle ping. Both numbers are accurate. Neither tells you what happens to your latency when someone in the house starts a download, a backup runs in the background, or you're on a call while streaming. That is when bufferbloat reveals itself — adding 200–400 ms of hidden delay to everything real-time: Zoom calls, gaming, VoIP. The…from getnetlora.com

Howdy HN! I find myself testing my ping from time to time, especially when my internet seems wonky while WFH. It feels like there should be an easier way test my ping than puling up a terminal or a complex web app - especially when I'm on my phone or any other device that doesn't have a terminal. I figured I should be the change I wish to see in the world and created this super light ping test. I also created a latency monitoring solution (https://github.com/cjjeakle/network-monitor), feel free to clone and try it out! I know there are a lot more mature monitoring…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

  • Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!
