Local development with .local domains and HTTPS
Hi HN! I'm Jarek, and I've built this tool that allows publishing .local domains on the local network using mDNS. It also has a reverse proxy that handles HTTPS termination and port forwarding. I'm working on adding more features, like an index page with all available domains or allowing proxy redirects, so you could redirect from HTTP to HTTPS. Let me know if you have any questions or feedback!
Local development with .local domains and HTTPS launched on August 1, 2023 with 84 votes, #1,276 of 4,347 launches that month and more than 90% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 3 years on.
In plain words
This tool enables developers to publish .local domains on local networks using mDNS, with a built-in reverse proxy that handles HTTPS termination and port forwarding. It's designed for local development workflows, allowing developers to test applications with proper domain names and SSL certificates on their machines. The tool is free to use locally and offers paid tiers for additional features.

Put localhost on a stable public URL to test webhooks, OAuth, and payment callbacks, or share a live preview. Flat per-seat pricing, no usage bills.
Put localhost on a stable Public URL to test webhooks or share previews without deploying. Publish a Snapshot and reviewers comment on it after you close the laptop. Before LocalCan, we wasted valuable time troubleshooting virtual hosts and hosts files. Now it's as simple as flicking a switch and we're ready in seconds. Support is also outstanding, with issues resolved within a day. Point Stripe, Clerk, or GitHub at a stable Public URL and watch every delivery land in the inspector. Replay a failed request instead of re-triggering the provider. Built it with Cursor or Claude Code and it runs on localhost. Send a real HTTPS link now, with no commit, no build pipeline, and no hosting account.…from localcan.com

Outlines is a Python library that focuses on text generation with large language models. Brandon and I are not LLM experts and started the project a few months ago because we wanted to understand better how the generation process works. Our original background is probabilistic, relational and symbolic programming. Recently we came up with a fast way to generate text that matches a regex (https://blog.normalcomputing.ai/posts/2023-07-27-regex-guide...). The basic idea is simple: regular expressions have an equivalent Deterministic-Finite Automaton (DFA) representation. We…
