What it does
No Rush is nature recordings arranged into places. Bamboo Grove is set in Kyoto, and it runs on Kyoto's hour and Kyoto's weather. Stalks knocking in the smallest breeze, birds only in daylight, rain only when it's raining there. So it never lands the same way twice. Pure field recordings, no synths. Spatial audio with AirPods head tracking. Offline, free, no account. Mac, iPhone, Windows, Linux, or the browser. On the Mac it lives in the menu bar.
Spatial sound made from recordings chosen to evoke real places. Sounds follow local time and online weather, with offline playback after they are saved.

I recorded nature sounds for a year, then released an ambient sound app2023 · apps.apple.com · ▲11There are lots of ambient sound apps on the App Store, but they all seem to be paywalled. I thought I should make one where all the content was free. I bought a secondhand professional audio recorder, then took it to national parks in Australia and Germany, in case I heard anything interesting. It was a bit of a learning experience, but I now have a library of half a dozen passable recordings. The biggest problem was noise pollution: humans are noisy and everywhere; I never noticed until I started listening carefully for background noise. Traffic and building noise carries for huge…

Clipto MCP▲655Hey HN, We recently built Clipto. It’s a tool that lets you search over terabytes of video, audio, and images on your computer, without relying on the cloud. Motivation: we probably all had this similar experience, we know a moment exists in a video or audio, but finding it takes hours scrubbing the timeline. You can send all the media to process in the cloud, but it’s slow, expensive and raises privacy concerns. So we decided to build our own on-device media search engine. How it works (high level): 1. We ingest video, audio, image; normalize formats via ffmpeg; run content analysis to…

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…
