A clear end-of-block alert is the secret ingredient of every good focus routine. Here's why countdown alerts beat willpower for staying on task.
Notify – Get notified on Slack, once your Startup gets mentioned launched on February 3, 2015 with 15 votes and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 11 years on.
In plain words
Notify alerts users on Slack when their startup gets mentioned online. The tool helps people maintain focus by providing clear countdown alerts that mark the end of work blocks, allowing the brain to concentrate fully rather than monitoring time. By delivering a distinct notification at the end of a set period, Notify removes the mental burden of clock-watching and enables better task switching without relying on willpower alone.

TL;DR: A clear countdown alert is the quietest productivity tool you own. It marks the end of a work block so your brain can stop guarding the clock and just focus. Set a specific length, give it a sound you'll actually hear, and let the beep handle task switching for you. Most people think a timer helps because it counts down. It does, a little. But the real work happens at the very end, when the alert goes off. Without a clear finish line, part of your attention stays on the clock. You glance up. You wonder how much time is left. You half-decide to wrap up, then don't. That low hum of "am I almost done?" is a tax on your focus, and it runs the whole time you work. A countdown alert…from notify.ly
