NutriQuest: Family Nutrition

The nutrition app that makes kids actually want to eat well

What it does

I'm 17 and built NutriQuest because my mom used to reward me and my siblings for hitting our daily nutrients, tracked on paper. It worked but we weren't nutritionist and didn't know enough to accurately track our daily nutrients. So I built the version I wished existed. NutriQuest turns family nutrition into a game. Kids scan meals, earn points, complete quests and unlock rewards. Parents track nutrients and set goals for individuals and the whole family. Healthy habits that actually stick.

Nutri is still in beta and the GPT-powered results are sometimes inaccurate. The nutrient information accuracy is good to get an overview, but there are still outliers at times. I'm looking to improve the accuracy through food databases. Furthermore, I'd like to add additional tips for combining / preparing food to improve its nutritional value. For example, iron absorption is improved through vitamin C, so combine chickpeas or leafy greens with lemon. Or combine beans with rice to get all amino acids. On the UX side, I'd like to integrate a QR code on the desktop version to easily…

I spent 3 years building an e-commerce side project to order groceries online, which later pivoted in the last 6 months to a complete Ai nutrional assitant, that can personalize meal plans, recipes, meal suggestions, and even scrape the internet for where to purchase grocery items in your chat.

Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
