Open Relay Project

Free WebRTC TURN server

Open Relay Project launched on February 27, 2023 with 3 votes. The site was still online in September 2026, 3 years on.

What it does

Open Relay is a free TURN server that you can use in your WebRTC applications. It is highly available, reliable and offers both STUN and TURN Capabilities. ✅ Runs on port 80 and 443 ✅ Support TURNS + SSL connections through deep packet inspection firewalls.

Metered also offers a premium TURN server service that automatically routes users to nearest server offering lowest possible latency. Plus also offer powerful REST API that allows creation, automatic expiry of credentials and ability to fetch detailed usage stats. WebRTC TURN Server is required to relay the traffic between the peers when direct connection cannot be established among them. WebRTC protocol establishes a direct connection between the peers, but the sometimes a direct connection cannot be established for this a TURN Server is required to relay the traffic between the peers. As peers cannot directly connect to each other the TURN Server acts as an intermediary among the peers…from metered.ca

Hi HN, I have been messing around with WebRTC for a few years now but when it comes to the TURN server I never quite got to my gold standard of free, self-hosted and open source. I decided to give it a go using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure's free tier, meaning that my total spend got down to domain name hosting. I know plenty of people have been burnt by Oracle in the past, but I have had servers running on the free tier for 5 years now without so much as a hiccup. Regardless, the concepts will be the same using any cloud based server. This is the first time I've written up an end-to-end…

    WebRTC Data Channels Example2017 · ▲91

https://github.com/TomasHubelbauer/webrtc-data-channel-demo Hi! I made this GitHub repo to try and show WebRTC data channels and the connection establishment flow in a different way from what I was able to find online. My aim with this repository is to make WebRTC data channels accessible to any web developer by showcasing offerer and answerer separately for total novices (makes it much clearer what's going on on each end of the connection) as well as combined approach where a peer can be both offerer and answerer. I use postMessage instead of a real signalling channel,…

Hi HN! I’m so excited to show my first open-source project and first post here. I initially started this project to learn Go language, it is an experimental project. The main goal is to track the adventure of a WebRTC stream from start to finish, by debugging the project or tracking the output at console. By trying out this project, you will deep dive into the steps which are taken while starting up a WebRTC session, and more. It consists of a web UI (TypeScript) and a server back-end (Golang) projects. They can run on Docker containers, in development mode or production mode, you can find…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
