OSM2VectorTiles – Offline map of the entire world

Design and host maps with OpenStreetMap vector tiles and open-source tools. Maps are compatible with Leaflet, MapLibre GL SDKs, GIS, WMTS/WMS, XYZ map tiles, etc.

OSM2VectorTiles – Offline map of the entire world launched on December 30, 2015 with 6 votes and more than 50% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 10 years on.

What it does

Open-source OpenStreetMap vector tiles, map styles, tools, and schema for building world maps. Works with MapLibre GL, Leaflet, OpenLayers, GIS, and WMTS.

Includes the OpenMapTiles schema, ready-to-use map styles, and tools for generating vector tiles from OpenStreetMap. OpenMapTiles is multilingual - display the map in your own language. Your browser does not support WebGL, which is required for this map. The OpenMapTiles project was created by MapTiler , the maintainer of the schema and tools. As the authors of the open-source stack, MapTiler also provides professional support and high-performance infrastructure for organizations running maps in production. OpenMapTiles includes several free and open-source styles maintained as part of the project. For a wider selection of professionally designed premium styles, see the commercial offerings…from osm2vectortiles.org

Hi HN, After 9 years of running my own OpenStreetMap tile server infra for MapHub (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11389989), I've open-sourced it and launched OpenFreeMap. You can either self-host or use our public instance. Everything is open-source, including the full production setup — there’s no 'open-core' model here. Check out the repo (https://github.com/hyperknot/openfreemap). The map data comes from OpenStreetMap. I also provide weekly full planet downloads both in Btrfs and MBTiles formats. I aim to cover the running costs of the public…

We built Maptoolkit.org - a free, production-grade vector maps service built on OpenStreetMap and MapLibre. Map rendering and tile hosting have historically been either expensive (Google, Mapbox) or complex to maintain yourself. (Plus: Their maps are car-focused.) Our maps feature max data zoom 15, global hill-shading, 3D terrain, contour lines, water depths, and specialized styles (like Hiking, Cycling, Winter). No sign up or API keys required. You can use it like this: ``` const map = new maplibregl.Map({ container: 'map', style: 'https://styles.maptoolkit.org/summer.json',…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
