Overengineering guest WiFi logins for fun (sadly not profit)
Hey HN! I wanted to share a project that I've been working on for a while and finally "completed" (until next time I try to improve it, that is). The idea is that I wanted my guest wifi password to change frequently, but I also didn't want my guests to hate me every time they came over to visit. Hence be_my_guest was born. What it does
“Be My Guest”, named after this catchy Simpsons tune , is my solution to the annoyances connecting to my Guest wifi. I felt I had to choose between: “Be My Guest” solves all of the above issues by reducing the barrier to entry for my guests while maintaining my minimum bar for security. It: As indicated above, I made two versions of “Be My Guest” based on the needs of my guests. Version 1 is best suited for environments that only have handheld mobile devices (phones, tablets, etc) join the Guest wifi. I probably should've looked for alternatives before building my own, but my grudge got in the way . Once I started, I wanted to make it better than the other options. Silly, I know. No one probably cares. I plan to open source it sometime next year because I’ve got other projects to finish first. It's free until I deplete my cloud credits, then it will switch to a tier-based model with a free option.

I made a thing! In 2014, I was holding a stack of iPhones and thought to myself: "Hey, if I had each phone display a playing card, I could click a button and they'd shuffle themselves" I pared that idea all the way down to this: trading cards made of e-ink displays.
